本書は、病理学の巨人アッカーマンが著した幻の名著“A Philosophy of Practice of Surgical Pathology：Dermatopathology as Model（皮膚病理学を範型とする診断病理学の実践哲学）”を対話形式で丁寧にたどる一冊である。疾患の分類や診断基準の解説ではなく、「正確な診断」に至るまでの観察・思考・判断のあり方そのものに目を向ける。原著には組織写真は掲載されていないが、本書では各章の論点に即した病理組織像を随所に提示し、思索の内容を視覚的にも理解できる構成とした。
